A New Chapter Begins: Launching the Chester Unitarians Website

24 Feb 2026

Today, we are delighted to launch the new website for Chester Unitarians, a space that reflects who we are, where we have come from, and the light we hope to share in the heart of this city.

Chester is a city of arches, ancient walkways that shelter and connect, creating space for people to gather, pass through, and discover something unexpected. Our new logo deliberately draws on that image. The arch is both structure and openness. It holds weight, yet it frames light.

Chester

For centuries, Unitarians in Chester have created spaces like that.

Our story reaches back to the 17th century and the ministry of Matthew Henry, whose chapel in Trinity Street became a beacon for thoughtful, courageous faith. The chapel was renewed in 1700, a building entrusted, as one early writer put it, “to be seemly for worship.”

That sense of trust remains with us.

The new website is not simply an update of information. It is an invitation.

  • An invitation to those seeking a faith that values conscience over coercion.
  • An invitation to those who carry questions as well as convictions.
  • An invitation to those who believe light is not something we possess, but something we tend together.

Each Wednesday at 10:30 am, we gather in a circle-sharing service, with prayer, chalice lighting, a short homily, silence, hymns, and the opportunity to respond if moved to do so. It is simple. It is spacious. It is open.

Like the arches of this city, we hope to be a place of shelter and passage, where history and hope meet.

As this new website goes live, we offer an old blessing made new:

May the light that has guided those before us
shine again in our own day —
not as certainty, but as courage;
not as control, but as compassion;
not as a monument, but as a living spirit.

Welcome to Chester Unitarians.

The light continues.
